2017 National Student Conference:
WHITE COATS IN ACTION
November 3-5, 2017
Welcome to the 2017 PHR National Student Conference!
The goals of the conference are to unite health professionals and students, immerse them in the human rights community of Washington, D.C., and provide attendees with foundational skills that will allow them to advocate for patients throughout their careers.
The weekend will kick off with an Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill on Friday, November 3. Attendees will be trained in the fundamentals of political advocacy and then have the opportunity to advocate directly with their representatives. That evening, we will then be joined by PHR Director Dr. Homer Venters and other PHR notables for a research and poster presentation reception.
The main session on Saturday, November 4, will feature keynotes from luminaries in the field of human rights and medicine, including Dr. Leonard Rubenstein, Drs. Arash & Kamiar Alaei, and Dr. Franz Freudenthal. The afternoon will include skill-building plenary sessions and the unique opportunity to be inspired by the stories of refugees and asylum seekers directly.
The conference will end on Sunday, November 5, with a morning excursion to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
